Avian Sanctuaries (Keep all birds given to them; a forever home!)
Oasis Sanctuary in Arizona: (https://the-oasis.org/
The Oasis Sanctuary was incorporated in the State of Arizona on May 22, 1997. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our Federal EIN number is 86-0885646. We are also registered with the Secretary of State in Arizona as a recognized charity. The Oasis Sanctuary is proud to be the first exotic bird sanctuary to have dual accreditation from the American Sanctuary Association (ASA) and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). The Oasis Sanctuary is a unique avian rescue and life-care facility, dedicated to providing permanent care, shelter and rehabilitation for companion parrots for which other rehoming options do not exist. In particular we are a refuge for exotic birds such as parrots, cockatoos, macaws and other Psittacine birds – although we do accept Passerines (finches and canaries), Columbiformes (doves and “fancy” or racing pigeons) and other captive avian species.
Many of the birds in our care have “special needs”, little or no social skills or have suffered physical and/or emotional abuse resulting in undesirable psychological behaviors. The Oasis is often all that stands between life and death for these beautiful, sentient and endangered companion birds.
As a true Sanctuary, The Oasis does not breed, adopt out, sell or trade birds. Once a bird enters the doors of The Oasis, they are guaranteed a lifetime of care and compassion. We assess each individual bird to provide optimum care including a healthy diet, medical care, opportunities for flight and flock socialization in natural aviary environments.
Our first priority is, and will remain the long-term care, well being and safety of the birds entrusted to our care.
Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary (https://flabirdsanctuary.org)/
The Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary in Hudson, Florida is dedicated to the care and well-being of parrots and other exotic birds. We do not breed, sell, trade, or offer for adoption the birds in our care. Instead, we endeavor to provide them with a permanent home that allows them to mingle with other compatible birds in outdoor open-flight aviaries. We also strive to provide permanent, caring home for birds with special needs, including those with physical challenges or behavioral issues. Finally, we are committed to raising public awareness regarding the moral responsibilities and physical demands of keeping parrots or other wild animals as pets.
The Board of directors recognizes the importance of a plan to address contingencies due to the disability, death or departure of the Founder and Executive Director, Patricia Norton. Should the organization is faced with the unlikely event of an untimely vacancy, FEBS has in place a succession plan to facilitate the transition to both interim and longer-term leadership. Below are some of the key points associated with this plan:
– A Key Man Life Insurance policy for Patricia Norton guarantees funds to continue to run the Sanctuary until a qualified individual to fill the Executive Director role is identified. Collectively, FEBS board members are qualified to assume operations until a successor is hired
– FEBS fully owns the sanctuary property and has created a strong financial advisory board, including a Non Profit Accountant to ensure continuing fiscal viability of the sanctuary
