2021: Zoom meetings held in January, February, and March. Our first meeting together this year in May to discuss upcoming events. Had our outdoor bird fair in June. Summer picnic in July.
2020: Meetings were held Feb 4 and Mar 3: Started detail plans for bird fair. Virtual meeting on August 16 to discuss bird fair in September. Summer picnic, annual bird fair at county fairgrounds, and holiday party all cancelled due to virus. Zoom holiday ‘show your birds‘ meeting was held in December.
2019: Sunday Dec 8 annual Holiday Party 2-4 for members and their guests was held. Great food and great times. Tuesday, Oct 29 meeting at PB in Hilliard, nominations were made for 2020 board members. Tuesday, Sep 24 meeting at Panera Bread, Hilliard. MAEBS had a table at METVET HILLIARD’s 1st Avian & Exotics Activity and Education Day on Saturday, September 14 at Amelita Mirolo Barn, 4395 Carriage Hill Lane, Upper Arlington. Barbara Oglesbee, DVM, Diplomate, ABVP at 12 noon gave a talk about avian nutrition and disease. There were crafts, hands-on pet demos, pet selfies, pet dress-up contest, DIY crafts, games, prizes, snacks and more. Birds and exotic pets are welcome! Sponsored by CareCredit. Quite a few birds, a guinea pig, hedgehogs, 2 ferrets were seen. June 23 annual summer picnic @ member’s house about 20 members attended so best picnic so far, enjoyed beef brats and ribs plus much more. May meeting discussed upcoming events, 2020 fair date set, and more. April meeting discussed bird fair - what went well and what to change. March meeting finalized bird fair details. February meeting bird fair was updated. January had first meeting to start planing this years annual bird fair with committees including Vendors, Set up and tear down, Raffle, Food trucks, Ticket sales and promotions, and education and presentations.
2018: A successful annual bird fair. A beautiful annual summer picnic. An educational trip to Parrot Hope Bird Sanctuary in Mantua. Ohio in September. 2019 MAEBS officers were elected in November. A fun holiday party in December (see pictures, including our 4 parrots). Dr. Aaron Messer, Public Health Veterinarian from the city of Columbus was unable to attend our November 2018 meeting to speak about animal hoarding.
Thanks to Parrot Hope Rescue (https://parrothope.com/) and Miami Valley Bird Club and Rescue (http://www.mvbcr.org/) for assisting in re-homing many of the 500 birds confiscated by ASPCA August 2018.
Our 25th Annual BIRD FAIR was Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 10 am - 4 pm at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard (Columbus), Ohio was a success.. Thank you to all the members who volunteered, to all vendors who sold their exotic birds and avian products, and to all guests who attended this fair. You made is a success, better that last year! Thanks to MetVet of Hilliard for donating cloth bags and having trained avian veterinarians! Thanks to all vendors, Pet Supplies Plus in Powell for gift card, and others who donated to our raffle! This is our only fundraiser every year to raise money for club activities and for donations to organizations that support our mission. Last year we donated money to Parrot Hope Rescue in Ohio, Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary, Ohio Bird Sanctuary (wild native birds in Mansfield), Garuda Sanctuary in Maryland, Oasis Sanctuary in Arizona, Texas A&M Schubot Exotic Bird Research Center (established in 1987) under the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and World Parrot Trust.
