The Schubot Center for Avian Health is an academic center within the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M. Their mission is to conduct research into health issues affecting pet, wild, and exotic birds. This includes not just the physical health of birds, but also their mental health and the health of the environment in which they live.
The Center’s mission is not restricted to studies on parrots although that is currently the major research focus. The Center is also investigating disease issues in waterfowl such as ducks, geese, and swans; songbirds such as zebra finch; gamebirds such as the Northern bobwhite; and seabirds such as gulls
We can house multiple species from large macaws to small songbirds. It contains state-of-the-art isolation facilities for infectious disease research; quarantine facilities for housing newly arrived birds; a small clinic, bird ward, and laboratory as well as offices and teaching facilities. This building was completed in July 2014.
